How it all began...
Toribio Psychological Services is not defined by one individual, but by a dedicated team of professionals who bring their expertise, compassion, and commitment to every person and family they serve. Together, we work to provide the highest quality, evidence-based, and culturally responsive care; meeting families where they are and walking with them on their path to healing. It is through the collective passion and dedication of our team that TPS continues to grow, innovate, and make a lasting impact in our communities.
Toribio Psychological Services (TPS) was founded by Dr. Janet Toribio, inspired by her upbringing as the daughter of immigrant parents in Sanger, California, where she learned resilience, gratitude, and the value of education. Her passion for psychology began at her kitchen table, grew through her studies at Fresno State and Texas A&M, and was shaped by research and mentorship. Janet’s clinical training at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, completed while raising her young family, further strengthened her skills and resilience, carrying the same "no excuses" mindset instilled by her parents, a mindset that still guides the culture of TPS today. Returning to the Central Valley, she transformed late nights in a small Clovis office into a growing mission to provide compassionate, culturally responsive, evidence-based care for our Central Valley communities.

In 2019, Toribio Psychological Services officially opened its doors. From the very beginning, our goal has been to provide more than psychological services; we aim to empower, uplift, and walk alongside patients and families on their path to healing. Our work is built on Janet’s vision, but it is carried forward by the dedication of every clinician, staff member, and trainee who has joined TPS.

A defining moment in our growth came in 2022, when TPS transitioned into a group practice following the closure of the Sullivan Center for Children. Many of its clinicians, staff, and patients became part of our family, and we proudly carry forward the legacy of Dr. Kathy Sullivan, whose passion and generosity shaped psychological care in the Valley for more than three decades. Today, we continue that tradition, honoring the past while building boldly toward the future.

Beyond clinical care, we are also committed to training the next generation of psychologists. As a first-generation college graduate herself, Janet understands the transformative power of mentorship. That spirit now lives in our training programs, where we open doors for students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows, especially those who, like Janet, may not initially see themselves reflected in the field.

At its heart, Toribio Psychological Services is a community, a place where resilience meets hope, where personal stories shape professional purpose, and where healing is built through connection. Our story began with one person’s vision, but today it belongs to all of us—clinicians, staff, trainees, and families—who believe in the mission of TPS and in the communities we serve.
